Basic Calculator

A clean, fast calculator for everyday math — additions, subtractions, multiplications, divisions, and percentages, with full keyboard support. It behaves like a good pocket calculator: results update as you chain operations, and everything runs locally in your browser.

How the calculator works

It works like a classic pocket calculator, evaluating operations in the order you enter them (left to right). The small line above the display always shows your pending operation — 12 + — so you never lose track of where you are in a chain. The % key divides the displayed number by 100; mid-calculation it takes the percentage of the running total, so 200 + 10 % = gives you 220. Pressing = repeatedly repeats the last operation — handy for compounding a value quickly.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • 0–9 and . — enter numbers
  • + − * / — operators
  • Enter or = — equals
  • % — percent, Backspace — delete last digit
  • Esc or C — clear everything
  • Built in-house, runs on your device

This calculator is written from scratch in plain JavaScript — no third-party widgets, no tracking scripts, and no network requests of any kind. Results are computed to 12 significant digits, enough for everyday math without the floating-point noise that trips up naive implementations (try 0.1 + 0.2 — you’ll get a clean 0.3, not 0.30000000000000004).
